More than 10 years ago, when social and environmental issues were not yet mandatory, our cooperative decided to create a CSR department. Cristal Union took advantage of this head start to become a leader in its sector on sustainability issues.
Our Group is already very far ahead in decarbonization and energy savings and is committed to further reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 23.2% by 2030 compared to 2019. This ambitious trajectory of industrial and agricultural decarbonization has been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative. Cristal Union is also aiming for energy independence on its sites by 2050, while pursuing its energy consumption reduction policy.
This year, Cristal Union is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a major announcement: from the next season, all its sugar factories will be totally water self-sufficient, and its distilleries will be from 2030.
Alongside its cooperative members and employees, the Group makes every effort to ensure sugar-beet cultivation and sugar, alcohol, bioethanol and animal-feed production, bring together the highest quality control standards and the lowest environmental impact on the market!
As a forerunner in its sector on agricultural sustainability issues, Cristal Union is accelerating with all its cooperative members.
The 9,000 Cristal Union cooperative members, who grow sugar beet and alfalfa, are in direct contact with the land on a daily basis. They are constantly adapting their practices to better control their environmental footprint. The Group's agronomists are at their side to support them.
The approach is open, with Cristal Union having chosen to evaluate all of its cooperative members, without exception. And the collective results are all there.
