Cristal Union: an ambitious plan validated by the SBTi for decarbonization and eco-friendly water management supporting adaptation to climate change
By 2030, the Group is committed to reducing its emissions of greenhouse gases by a further 23% compared to 2019 and stop drawing any water from the natural environment in order to operate its sugar production facilities.
Cristal Union asserts its leading position in specialty alcohols in Europe, with ever more specialized products
Cristal Union produces 6 million hectoliters of agricultural alcohol per year, in addition to its sugar activities. Half of the alcohol produced is classed “specialty”. Its uses are highly varied: perfumes, cosmetics, spirits, detergents and even pharmaceuticals.

As the cooperative's longest-running operation, sugar production represents nearly two-thirds of Cristal Union's revenue. The Group's 8 sugar factories convert sugar beets grown by cooperative members into sugar destined for large retailers and industrial applications.
The product of fermentation and distillation of agricultural raw materials, ethyl alcohol is produced from sugar beets, whole wheat and wine substrates. Our industrial facility fitted with the latest technology allows us to offer a very wide range and high-quality products.
With its ethanol production operations and use of ethanol as a biofuel, Cristal Union is fully engaged in the future of the European energy market. Ethanol is part of the composition of E10 and E85.
The by-products from the sugar production process (sugar beet pulp) and distilleries (wheat biomass), as well as harvested alfalfa are processed in the dehydration units. Processed granulates ads energy and protein to animal feed.
