Committed to decarbonization

We are committed to combining our industrial performance with clear environmental choices.

Between 2010 and 2020, Cristal Union reduced its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 15% per tonne of sugar beet and its energy consumption by 8% per tonne of sugar beet across all of its sugar factories.

After completing the energy transition of our sites, we are going even further. The Group is giving itself the means to be the leader in decarbonization in its sector. The aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2030, a saving of 265,000 tonnes of CO2.

To achieve this aim, we are investing in innovative technologies, encouraging the logic of a circular economy and biomass production.
Our roadmap to decarbonization has 4 main paths:

In addition, the Group is anticipating future regulations with an action plan whose target is to
achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
To support this transition, in 2020 Cristal Union committed to the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) collective founded by the UN, CDP and WWF.
Cristal Union will publish its finalized action plan
for SBTi by 2022.
