HR policy

Cristal Union's Human Resources Policy is based on 4 main pillars which apply from the point of recruitment and throughout each employee's time with the Group.

Building solid and passionate teams

There is no specific university education which applies to the sugar industry so internal knowledge transfer is therefore essential. For this reason, traineeships and mentoring are used across all of our industrial sites so that each new production recruit becomes familiar with sugar production, and is supported and trained to carry out their duties independently.

However, besides educational qualifications, Cristal Union attaches particular importance to each candidate’s personality and potential. Adaptability, curiosity and a collaborative mind-set are also significant assets which will help new recruits to flourish in their field of expertise.

Cristal Union won 1st prize in the “Osons l’Alternance” (Let’s Try Traineeships) challenge in the category for companies with more than 1,000 employees.

Training to develop skills

Training and skills development for employees are at the heart of Cristal Union’s HR policy. Employees at Cristal Union acquire skills and expertise in this way throughout their career as part of their continuous professional development. By ensuring equality of opportunity in the workplace and providing each person with the tools to perform their duties under the best possible conditions, Cristal Union matches its employees’ commitment to its performance targets. A wide-ranging training program has therefore been implemented by Cristal Union to successfully meet the needs of each employee and each division.

Cristal Union has launched its own internal training college, called “Cristal Académie”. Nowadays, 80% of packaging line controllers are trained through this college.

Make each person active in their own professional development

The development of a careers and skills planning system has meant that the Group can offer opportunities for internal mobility and development. To promote each employee’s employability throughout their career, Cristal Union is allocating significant resources to promote and facilitate mobility: job bursaries, internal promotions, intra-site mobility, annual performance reviews, a mobility charter.

Promoting diversity

Besides the wide range of careers available to its employees, and fully in line with its cooperative values, Cristal Union meets its social responsibilities by having an HR policy that is respects diversity. Actions which benefit people with a disability form part of this target. The amount of attention paid to preserving the quality of the workplace experience and gender equality in terms of job opportunities are proof that the human dimension is fully taken into consideration.

The gender equality in the workplace index for 2021 (data for 2020) is 87/100.
